More than
300 lawsuits related to traffic rules violations at 30 points in the capital were
filed over the past week with AI-camera support, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police
(DMP) Commissioner Md Sarwar on Monday.
Within the
next six months, the government will fully automate traffic case filing
procedures in the capital, leading to daily lawsuit count of at least 1,000,
the police officer said.
He made the
remarks while inaugurating solar-powered traffic lights at the Dhaka airport
crossing.
The
artificial intelligence cameras can prepare footages of traffic violations
within seconds of an offence, he said. Afterwards, addresses of violators are
drawn from the BRTA database, and letters informing case filing are delivered
to these addresses, Md Sarwar added.
Within a
few weeks, the process will be rolled out to send notifications via mobile
applications or SMS, he noted. Then the violators can pay fines digitally, he added.
