The Dhaka
Metropolitan Police (DMP) has proposed the establishment of four new police
stations in the capital to cope with the increase in the city’s population and expansion
of urbanization.
Proposal on
setting up the Rayerbazar Police Station have already reached the Home
Ministry, said DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar at an event on Friday.
At the
event, the DMP chief inaugurated the “Khilkhet Police Outpost” at Police Officers
Housing Society-1 area.
At present,
the law and order situation in Rayerbazar area is maintained by the Mohammadpur
Police Station. The proposed new police station would significantly reduce
workload at the Mohammadpur Police Station, allowing it to focus more on the
heightened security situation brewing in nearby Mohammadpur areas.
The DMP has
also proposed a second new police station under the areas presently monitored
by the Mohammadpour Police Station. The areas for the police station would
include parts of Mohammadpur proper, Adabar and Hazaribagh.
The other
two proposed stations are: a new station in Khilgaon area, and a “Bashundhara
Police Station” comprising Bhatara, Badda and Khilkhet areas.
Md Sarwar
also said that the Police Headquarters has facilitated the set-up of new accommodation
facilities for 8,000 DMP personnel over the past few months.
The new and
expanded dormitories have been set up in Nilkhet Police Outpost, Demra Police
Line, 20-story building in Mirpur Police Line, Purbachal’s 20-story building of
the Police Headquarters, 10-acre area in Diabari Police Line, and in Basila
Police Line.
At Basila
Police Line, a new office for Tejgaon Traffic Police Division has been launched,
a motor driving training school has been launched, and the MTO workshop from
Rajarbagh Police Line is being transferred.
There are
also plans for setting up four new police stations and outposts in the
Purbachal area, should the area be included under the Dhaka North City
Corporation, the DMP chief noted.
