BGB has
heightened border monitoring after seizing an Indian surveillance drone that fell
inside Bangladeshi territory at Patgram upazila, Lalmonirhat on Tuesday noon.
The drone
has been kept under BGB custody, and officers have contacted higher authorities
to decide the next course of action, said the force’s Teesta Battalion chief Lt
Col Syed Fazle Munim.
Legal
measures are being pursued and a potential flag-meeting with India’s BSF are
under consideration, he added.
BSF has
already contacted BGB, saying one of their drones malfunctioned and fell inside
Bangladeshi territory.
According
to locals and BGB sources, around noon, the BSF drone flew across the border at
the Muglibari border area under Burimari union of Lalmonirhat. BSF personnel
from the 98 Himalaya Camp in West Bengal were taking videos with the drone.
It fell on
a cornfield 20 yards inside Bangladeshi territory. A local farmer informed the
nearest BGB outpost about the incident.
The BGB men
from the Teesta Battalion seized the drone swiftly.
Reportedly,
afterwards, BSF members strengthened border positions to recover the drone,
causing alarm among Bangladeshi villagers. In response, BGB also increased
monitoring. Gradually, the tensions ebbed.
