The High
Court on Monday issued a rule asking the concerned government officials to
explain why the 208 expatriate fighters of July Uprising should not get Tk25
lakh each as compensation.
All the
expatriates have been returned to the country after they were detained in the
Arab countries for demonstrating in support of the student-led movement during July-August
2024.
Justice
Fatema Najib and Justice AFM Saiful Karim ruled in their favour, and named the
secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment,
among others, as respondents.
The ruling
was issued following a writ petition filed by Barrister AHM Sanjid Siddiqui.
