A colourful Baishakhi fair and cultural festival was held in Copenhagen, bringing together the Bangladeshi diaspora in a vibrant celebration of culture and unity.
The event, organised by the Bangladesh Association of Denmark, took place in the Nørrebro area on Sunday (18 April). A large number of expatriate Bangladeshis attended, turning the venue into what many described as a “mini Bangladesh.”
The inaugural session was presided over by Acting President Belayat Hossain Babul, while Tanmoy Majumdar, Head of the Bangladesh Embassy in Denmark, delivered the welcome address.
The programme was conducted by Acting General Secretary Zia Hasan and Organising Secretary Hillol Barua.
As a symbol of religious harmony, the programme began with recitations from the Holy Qur’an by Sadekur Rahman Khalashi, the Gita by Joy Krishna, and the Tripitaka by Finance Secretary Alok Barua. The formal proceedings commenced with a rendition of the national anthem.

A condolence motion was adopted in memory of Adviser Rafayetul Haque Mithu and Publicity Secretary Emdad Hossain, presented by General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
The festival, regarded as one of the largest gatherings of Bangladeshis in Copenhagen, featured a wide variety of traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.
Visitors from different parts of Denmark and neighbouring Sweden attended, resulting in an overwhelming turnout that extended beyond the indoor venue.
The cultural segment featured musical performances by Germany-based artist Nipun Barua, along with local performers Arpita, Brishti, Sadia Shimu and Swadhin. Dance performances by artists from Sweden and a poetry recitation by Sayan added further vibrancy to the programme.
A raffle draw was organised to raise funds for underprivileged street children in Bangladesh. Attractive prizes were offered, with the first prize won by Yusuf Chapol and his family. The draw was coordinated by Pavel Mostafiz, Sardar Rahman, Fahad Shipu, Iftekhar Samrat, Fahmid and Arif.
Organisers expressed satisfaction over the successful event, attributing it to the collective efforts of the association members. They also thanked the audience and expressed hope to continue such initiatives in the future.
