The United States is set to donate 2.19 crores of measles vaccine
doses to help Bangladesh address a sudden outbreak, and in the process protect
Americans from a cross-boundary infection surge.
The US embassy in Dhaka announced the donation in a post
published on its official Facebook page on Wednesday.
The donated doses would protect 1.20 crore Bangladeshi
children aged below five years, it said.
The doses will be provided to the Bangladesh Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare through UNICEF under an emergency vaccination
campaign.
“This effort reflects the Trump Administration's America
First Global Health Strategy—preventing disease outbreaks abroad keeps America
and Bangladesh safe, strengthens global health systems, and protects
communities from infectious diseases,” the Facebook post added.
