A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted a three-day remand for
dismissed lieutenant colonel Md Afzal Naser in a case filed over an attack on
the BNP central office in Nayapaltan and the killing of a party activist named
Makbul in December 2022.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the
order against the former DGFI officer following a five-day remand petition placed
by the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Tofazzel Hossain of the
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Earlier in the day, Afzal Naser was produced before the
court after a fourth-round remand in two cases. He was arrested on the night of
29 March.
During the hearing, state prosecutor Azizul Haque Didar
argued in favour of the remand, while defence lawyer Md Tafazzal Hossain
pleaded for the cancellation of the plea.
The Makbul murder case was filed against 256 individuals,
including Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina, over the deadly attack on the BNP
central office in Nayapaltan on 7 December 2022. The case was lodged at Paltan
Model Police Station on 30 September 2024 by a complainant named Mahfuzur
Rahman.
