A ringleader of a juvenile gang was hacked by rivals in the capital’s Mohammadpur on Sunday afternoon.
Police detained three individuals at the
scene in this connection.
The injured, Emon alias Alex Emon, is said to
be the leader of a group known as the “Alex Group”. He was rescued by locals
and taken for medical treatment.
According to police, tensions had been
building among several juvenile gangs in the area over territorial dominance
which triggered the attack.
Jewel Rana, additional deputy commissioner of
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon Division), confirmed that three individuals
involved in the attack were detained on the spot.
Efforts were underway to arrest the remaining
suspects, he added.
Police also noted that concerns over juvenile
gang activity in Mohammadpur have persisted for years, with multiple groups
emerging and engaging in territorial disputes, extortion and other criminal
activities.
Most members are adolescents or young men who
often display their influence on social media while attempting to assert
control over local areas, police added.
