The government has started a trial operation of the QR code-based 'Fuel Pass' app to restore discipline and ensure transparency in fuel distribution. From now on, drivers will have to verify the information through the app and take fuel according to the allocated allocation.

This information was given in a notification by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Thursday (April 9).

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Energy and Mineral Resources Department is implementing this initiative. Initially, the service has been launched on a trial basis at two filling stations in the capital. The two stations are Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonarbangla Filling Station in Asadgate. For now, only motorcycle drivers are getting this facility.

Ministry sources said that currently, long traffic jams and suffering are being created at filling stations due to traditional or manual method of oil distribution. In many cases, the same person is standing in line multiple times to collect more than the required amount of fuel. This is creating an artificial crisis in the market.

If this new QR code-based 'Fuel Pass' is introduced, the allocated allocation for each vehicle can be ensured. At the same time, this digital system will create opportunities for real-time monitoring or immediate surveillance. As a result, the concerned authorities hope that irregularities will be reduced.

If the pilot program is successful, there are plans to gradually introduce this system across the country, including other filling stations in the capital. The concerned authorities believe that this will increase transparency in the oil distribution system and also reduce suffering.

How to register

To get a digital fuel pass, the user has to register online. For this, the user has to log in to the designated website of the fuel distribution management system (fuelpass.gov.bd) or app (Fuel Pass).
