The government is set to start importing 200 coaches of
broad gauge trains from India in June, said Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul
Alam at a parliament session on Thursday.
All the advanced coaches are expected to be added to Bangladesh
Railway’s fleet by the end of next year, he added.
The coaches will be imported under a railway expansion project
financed by the European Investment Bank, the minister informed in response to
a question raised by Faridpur-1 opposition lawmaker Md Ilias Molla.
The new coaches will increase the number of trains and route
operations, Shaikh Rabiul Alam said.
In particular, rail communication in the southern district will
be improved and made more comfortable with the new coaches.
