Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said in Parliament that the Zia family had suffered the worst human rights violations in Bangladesh’s history.
He said, “In fact, the family members of BNP leaders
and activists have endured the most severe human rights violations in the
country’s history. The worst victims of human rights crimes in Bangladesh’s
history include the family members of both the BNP and Zia families. The people
sitting in the Parliament, including the prime minister, are among the extreme
victims of human rights abuses.”
He shared this information on Thursday in Parliament
while presenting the “National Human Rights Commission (Repeal and
Re-enactment) Bill-2026.” The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin
Ahmad.
“Since 1971, no one in Bangladesh has suffered more
human rights violations than those before him,” he said.
He mentioned that many of his colleagues and friends
sitting in front of him have themselves been victims of human rights abuses
over the past 17 years. Numerous families among them have also experienced
violations. Many of those present have felt firsthand the harsh reality of
human rights violations.
He added that they have no tolerance for human
rights abuses and want to ensure that no mother in Bangladesh loses her child
in a crossfire. No mother should have to sit in prayer halls, waiting for the
return of her child, shedding tears every day.
He stated that they want to prevent any person in
Bangladesh from falling victim to false disappearance cases or wrongful
persecution.
