A total of 24 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to uphold law and order and ensure a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful by-elections to the Bogura-6 (Sadar) and Sherpur-3 (Sreebardi-Jhenaigati) parliamentary constituencies being held today (9 April).

In the by-election for the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, a total of eight platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to uphold law and order there.

The BGB personnel, drawn from Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB) and Patnitala Battalion (14 BGB), are performing duties as both mobile and static forces across the constituency, according to a press release.

The by-election is being held following the vacancy of the Bogura-6 seat.

In the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on 12 February, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was elected from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies with a large number of votes.

Later, he retained the Dhaka-17 seat and vacated Bogura-6, leading to the declaration of the seat as vacant.

To ensure a free, fair, and peaceful by-election for the Sherpur-3 constituency, 16 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Under the supervision of BGB Mymensingh Sector and management of Mymensingh Battalion (39 BGB), the platoons are performing duties as both mobile and static forces in Sreebardi and Jhenaigati upazilas of Sherpur district.

As the constituency is a border-adjacent area, BGB members stationed along the border are also providing necessary support in the election process.

It is stated that the election was postponed on 12 February following the death of Jamaat candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.

In accordance with the Constitution and the Representation of the People Order, the by-election for Bogura-6 is being conducted today.

According to the directives of the Bangladesh Election Commission, BGB personnel will remain deployed until 11 April, conducting patrols and maintaining overall security.
