An Indian court has remanded Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, along with his associate, Alamgir Hossain, in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for 11 days.
Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma of the Patiala House Court in New Delhi passed the order on 24 March, reports The Indian Express.
Special Public Prosecutor Rahul Tyagi told the court that since the two accused had fled to India from Bangladesh, a conspiracy could not be ruled out, and a detailed investigation was necessary to uncover the full facts.
Faisal and Alamgir were brought to Delhi from West Bengal on transit remand on 23 March, when the NIA sought custody of the duo at the Bidhan Nagar Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate's Court in North 24 Parganas.
The court approved the plea, allowing the agency to interrogate them for investigative purposes.
Faisal and Alamgir were detained on 8 March in the Bongaon area near the Bangladesh-India border by West Bengal Police's Special Task Force (STF). They were initially arrested on charges of illegal entry and placed on a 14-day remand for questioning.
After the remand period, the court ordered 12 days of judicial custody. While being taken to court, Faisal told reporters, "I did not commit this act [Hadi murder]. I was not involved."
He, however, avoided answering whether he had been framed in the murder.
Sources at the STF said that during interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in Hadi’s murder.
One of the leaders of the July Uprising and a prospective independent candidate for the 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-8, Hadi was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Paltan area on 12 December 2025.
He sustained bullet injuries to the head and was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, before being transferred to Evercare Hospital later that night.
He was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on 15 December after being flown there by air ambulance. He passed away on 18 December while undergoing treatment there.
