A severe traffic jam hit the Dhaka–Chattogram highway in Munshiganj’s Gazaria on Thursday, causing prolonged suffering for commuters.
Traffic pressure increased from the morning of 26 March, leaving passengers stuck for hours. A long tailback formed on the Dhaka-bound lane from the Jamaldi Meghna Bridge to Bhaberchar, where buses and freight vehicles moved at a crawl. The congestion continued until at least 12:30 pm.
Commuter Mizan Dewan said he remained stuck for nearly an hour near Baluakandi while travelling for urgent work and failed to reach his office on time. Truck driver Nuruzzaman said he tried alternative routes but found little relief as heavy traffic forced vehicles to a near standstill.
Vaberchar Highway Police Station In-charge Shah Kamal Akand said traffic increased due to the Ashtami Snan festival of Hindu devotees at Langalbandh. He added that highway police are working to ease the congestion.
