A Dhaka court on Sunday granted a two-day remand for former councillor of Ward 40 under the Dhaka South City Corporation, Abul Kalam Azad Mintu, in a case filed over an alleged attack on the motorcade of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order after the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md Hasanuzzaman of Shahbagh Police Station, requested a seven-day remand.
According to the case, during the Dhaka North City Corporation elections on 22 April 2015, Khaleda Zia left her residence in Gulshan in a motorcade to participate in campaigning for BNP-backed candidate Tabith Awal.
When the motorcade reached the Banglamotor signal area in Shahbagh around 5:30pm, it was allegedly attacked in a premeditated manner. Vehicles were damaged, and several people were assaulted and injured during the attack. A case was later filed in connection with the attack.
