Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas is set to be taken to Singapore on Sunday for advanced medical treatment.
According to his personal secretary Mizanur Rahman
Sohel, Abbas will be flown from Dhaka to Singapore at around 11:00am by an air
ambulance.
He said Abbas will be accompanied by his wife Afroza
Abbas, president of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, and his eldest son Mirza Yasir
Abbas.
The veteran BNP leader has been undergoing treatment
at Evercare Hospital Dhaka, where he recently underwent successful brain
surgery on Friday.
Since the operation, he has been kept under close
observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
A CT scan of his brain was conducted on Saturday
morning, and BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam said the report
showed positive signs. However, following doctors’ advice, his family decided
to take him abroad for more advanced treatment.
Earlier on Thursday, Abbas suddenly lost
consciousness while drinking water during iftar and was rushed to Evercare
Hospital. As his condition worsened, a virtual medical board was formed, and
based on its recommendations, he underwent two phases of brain surgery on
Friday.
Following the surgery, he has been placed under
72-hour intensive observation.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been monitoring
Abbas’s condition closely. He visited the hospital on Friday to inquire about
his health.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, along with other senior
political leaders, also visited the hospital and expressed their wishes for his
speedy recovery.
