The High Court’s election tribunal on Monday ordered the
Election Commission (EC) to seize the ballot papers and result sheets of two
constituencies, including where Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdullah Mohammad Taher
has won.
Justice Md Jakir Hossain gave instructions for seizing the
documents at Cummila-11, where Taher was declared winner, and Mymensingh-2,
after BNP’s defeated candidates challenged the election results.
Cumilla-11’s BNP candidate Kamrul Huda and Mymensingh-2’s
BNP candidate Motahar Hossain Talukder filed petitions with the High Court
tribunal, demand recount of the votes in the two constituencies.
Since the 12 February general elections, the tribunal has
ordered the seizure of ballot papers and result sheets of 18 constituencies in
response to petitions filed by BNP’s 10 defeated candidates, Jamaat’s seven defeated
candidate and an independent defeated candidate.
