A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a two-day remand for
former leader of Students Against Discrimination (SAD) and Presidency
University student Abdur Razzak Bin Solaiman Riad in a case of attempted
murder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order
after a hearing.
Earlier, on 1 March, the investigation officer of the case,
Sub-Inspector Arman Ali of Gulshan Police Station, pleaded for a five-day
remand for the accused.
Meanwhile, the court sent three other accused in the
case—Presidency University students Riadul Hawlader, Alif Ahmed Ashik and Sayem
Shikder—to jail, rejecting both their bail and remand pleas.
Earlier, on 26 February, police arrested them in the case
filed by Presidency University student Nirjon Sardar Bandhan, who lodged the
attempted murder case against Riad and 10 others.
According to the case statement, there was prior enmity
between the accused and the victim, Nirjon, and his friends.
On 26 February, the accused individuals asked the victim to
visit their permanent campus and participate in the convocation when they met
in Room 412 on the fourth floor of Presidency University.
The accused—Riadul and Sayem—attacked the victim with a
chair under the orders of another accused, Razzak, while the victim was
consulting with the university proctor.
The case also alleged that the accused, Riad, struck the
victim in the face with a switchblade knife with the intent to kill and beat
him indiscriminately, causing various injuries across his body.
Earlier, on 26 July last year, Riad had been arrested in
Gulshan over an extortion case involving former Member of Parliament Shammi
Ahmed’s residence.
