Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya has said that it is time for the interim government to step aside.
“They have exhausted whatever scope they had for reform, whatever space they had for reform, and whatever scope they had for delivering justice—the interim government has reached its limit,” he said on Sunday.
Dr Debapriya was addressing a report launch event titled “From Pledges to Practice: Political Inclusion & Democratic Accountability” in the capital. The Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) organised the event.
He said that the interim government has exhausted its capacity and potential. “Now, what they can do is hold a fair election.”
Dr Debapriya said the interim government must take responsibility for bringing marginalised people to the polls and ensuring their security before and after voting.
He believes this is the government’s last chance to do something good. “If this government can do this last good thing, it might still be remembered in history,” he added.
