The Election Commission (EC) has reportedly instructed returning officers to reissue observer cards to the People’s Association for Social Advancement (PASHA), despite withdrawing its approval earlier.
The EC had initially approved more than 10,000 PASHA observers for the upcoming general election but revoked the decision following widespread criticism.
However, in a move that appears to sidestep the withdrawal, the public relations wing of the EC on Sunday directed officials to reissue the credentials.
The directive, signed by EC Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik, was issued as the commission finalised its election-monitoring framework.
In line with the Election Observation Policy 2025, the EC has approved a total of 55,454 observers from 81 registered organisations. Of these, 7,997 have received central approval, while 47,457 are assigned to observe polling activities at the constituency level nationwide.
The commission also provided specific instructions regarding the issuance of observer identity cards and vehicle stickers. Following those instructions, the EC sent directives to returning officers on Sunday to issue observer cards to the suspended organisation for election observation.
It is worth mentioning that the People’s Association for Social Advancement (PASHA) was recently granted approval for 430 central observers and 10,129 field-level observers. The total number of approved observers stands at 55,454.
