Joint forces led by the Bangladesh Army seized a large cache of sharp weapons, along with firearms, hidden under a pond in Faridpur on Saturday.
Major Sohel Ahmed, commander of the Faridpur army camp, shared the matter at a press conference this evening.
The drive was conducted at a pond in the Kanaipur Sugarcane Centre area from 1pm to 5pm.
The seized items included four foreign-made pistols, 16 bullets, two pipe guns, and a huge number of sharp weapons.
No arrests were made during the raid. Law enforcement agencies, meanwhile, have launched an investigation into the incident.
Major Sohel Ahmed said the raid was conducted based on information that weapons and ammunition had been stored in the pond for committing sabotage.
He also confirmed that the seized weapons do not match any weapons looted from police stations.
Preliminary indications suggest that the weapons were kept hidden in the pond to create violence ahead of the election, the army official added.
