The World Food Programme (WFP) on Thursday signed an agreement with the government to provide almost 94% of the funds for completing a social security enhancement project.

Under the agreement Bangladesh will receive $6,45,714 from WFP for the “Strengthening Shock Responsive and Nutrition Sensitive Social Protection Programme (SSRNSSPP)” out of the total project cost $6,88,979, said a press release from the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

The main objectives of the technical assistance project are: policy advocacy, enhanced sectoral coordination, capacity building and generation of evidence-based knowledge.

The core objective of the three-year project, which was launched on 1 January 2026, is to provide technical support to National Social Security Strategy and its related development goals in Bangladesh, the ERD release said.

ERD secretary Shahriar Kader Siddiky and WFP acting Country Director Simone Parchment signed the agreement document on behalf of their respective sides.
