A Dhaka court on Monday placed three accused on seven-day remand over the murder of Muhammad Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of Swechchhasebak Dal’s Dhaka North unit.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed
the order after police produced the accused before the court, seeking a
seven-day remand.
The three accused placed on remand are Billal, Riaz,
32, and Abdul Kadir, 28.
During the hearing, State Prosecutor (PP) Omar
Farook Faruqui argued in favour of remand, saying that the prime accused, Rahim,
has not yet been arrested.
He claimed that two brothers, Bellal and Kabir,
together killed Musabbir.
Later, the court asked the accused whether they had
anything to say. At that time, accused Riaz told the court, “I was not present
there. I was at work that day. I know nothing. I have been arrested without any
reason.”
Meanwhile, another accused, Jinnat, 24, gave a
confessional statement before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana
Haque’s court, after police produced him before the court and filed a petition
to record his statement.
Earlier on 7 December, Musabbir, 45, was shot dead
at around 8:30pm in a narrow alley beside Star Hotel in the Tejturi Bazar area
of Karwan Bazar in the capital.
His wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a case following the
killing with Tejgaon Police Station against unidentified suspects, stating that
Musabbir had received death threats in recent days.
