Gas supply in different parts of the capital has further deteriorated after water entered a damaged distribution pipeline during repair work beneath the Turag River, exacerbating the ongoing winter gas shortage.
According
to Titas Gas authorities, a distribution pipeline located under the Turag River
in the Aminbazar area was damaged after being hit by the anchor of a cargo
trawler. Following the incident, gas pressure was reduced from Wednesday to
facilitate repair work.
In
a statement issued on Friday, Titas Gas said efforts to resolve the problem
were continuing and apologised to customers for the temporary inconvenience.
The impact of the pipeline leakage has been most severe in areas including Gabtoli, Asadgate, Mohammadpur, Bosila, Lalmatia, Dhanmondi and surrounding localities. Gas pressure in these areas has remained low since Wednesday, with the situation worsening on the weekly holiday.
Mohammadpur
resident Md Shahjahan said there was some gas supply at night, but none was
available throughout the day on Friday, forcing his family to buy food from
outside.
Another
resident, Shahadat Hossain of Dhanmondi, said gas supply to stoves was almost
nonexistent, leaving him with no option but to cook using an electric stove.
