Returning officers in Dhaka city have cancelled the nominations of 63 aspiring candidates for the upcoming national polls.

The candidates can appeal against the decision to exclude them, said Returning Officers Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and Md Yunus Ali when speaking with reporters on Saturday night.

In all the 15 constituencies in the capital city, total 194 aspirants had submitted nomination papers to become election candidates.

All the BNP aspirants in the party's designated constituencies have secured the green signal from the concerned returning officers. From Jamaat-e-Islami, one aspirant's nomination status has been withheld.

Jamaat's Muhammad Ashraful Haq, looking to secure nomination from Dhaka-18, has sought one additional day to submit all the necessary documents. The returning officer has granted the application, and withheld the nomination status.

Another candidate's nomination status has also been withheld.

Most of the rejected aspirants are independent politicians, and do not repesent any particular party. Many of these could not secure the required 1% voters' endorsement in their respective desired constitutencies. Other grounds for rejection include loan defaults and irregularities in party registration.
