Special prayers were offered after Jummah across the country on Friday seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
At the national mosque Baitul Mukarram, a special doa was held following the Jummah prayers for the salvation of her departed soul. The mosque's khatib Maulana Abdul Malek led the doa and munajat with general worshippers taking part.
Many devotees were seen shedding tears while offering prayers for Begum Khaleda Zia.
Besides,
prayers were also offered in all religious places of worship, including
temples, pagodas and churches, across the country.
Earlier, in an official letter issued on Tuesday (30 December), the Islamic Foundation announced that special prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia would be held after Jummah prayers on Friday at all mosques across the country.
Following the demise of Khaleda Zia, the government
announced a three-day state mourning. During this period, the national flag is
being kept at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and educational
institutions, as well as public and private buildings and Bangladesh missions
abroad.
