Dhaka remained shrouded in dense fog from early Friday morning, as the temperature dropped to the low 13-degree range, intensifying the winter chill in the capital.
From dawn on Friday, a thick blanket of fog covered
different parts of the city, reducing visibility and giving the impression of
mist falling like rain.
As it was a weekly holiday, streets were relatively
quiet, though those who ventured out for urgent work faced significant
discomfort due to the biting cold.
Because of the dense fog, vehicles were seen moving
with headlights on, and reports of slow traffic were received from several
areas.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has offered
some relief regarding Dhaka’s winter conditions, saying that daytime
temperatures may rise slightly, which could ease the feeling of cold.
In its forecast issued for the six-hour period
starting from 7:00am on Friday, the weather office said the sky may remain
temporarily partly cloudy, with dry weather likely to prevail. Moderate to
dense fog may persist during this period, while winds from the north or
northwest may blow at speeds of 5 to 10 kilometres per hour.
Day temperatures are expected to increase slightly.
At 6:00am, Dhaka’s temperature was recorded at 13.6
degrees celsius, with humidity at 95%.
The city’s minimum temperature for the day was
recorded at 13.5 degrees celsius.
