The Dudok Service Association (DuSA) has expressed deep sorrow and grief at the death of former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, DuSA said the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia marks an irreparable loss for the nation and a moment of profound sadness in Bangladesh’s political history.

Describing her as one of the most influential and courageous figures in the country’s state and political life, DuSA said Begum Khaleda Zia played a significant role in governing the country as prime minister, strengthening democratic institutions and fostering a pluralistic political culture. Her long political career and leadership, the organisation said, will be remembered as a notable chapter in national history.

The organisation noted that her death has created a void that cannot be easily filled, saying it was a loss not only for her party but also for the country’s democratic aspirations and the people at large.

In recalling her life, DuSA said Begum Khaleda Zia endured many personal sacrifices and hardships in the course of her political journey, yet remained steadfast in her commitment to the country.

DuSA prayed to Almighty Allah to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and extended its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to her bereaved family members, relatives, political colleagues and admirers.

The condolence message was signed by DuSA General Secretary Dr Jahid Kalam and President Dr Nazmul Huda.

Begum Khaleda Zia passed away in Dhaka on early Tuesday at the age of 80.
