Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) formed its
United Arab Emirates chapter at a meeting of Bangladeshi expatriates held in
Dubai on Monday evening.
The meeting took place at around 6:00pm near the World Trade
Centre at Al Musa Tower, where expatriates gathered to discuss issues related
to the protection and establishment of migrants’ rights.
The discussion meeting was presided over by Bangladeshi businessman
Sihab Uddin Simul.
Senior Advocate Manzill Murshid, central president of HRPB,
attended the programme as the chief guest.
Among others, Rakimul Al Mamun, Dr Mohammad Zafar Iqbal,
Mohammad Mojibur Mia and Mohammad Yasin Babul also spoke at the meeting.
In his address, Manzill Murshid said there was no
alternative to forming a Bangladesh-based special expatriate tribunal to ensure
legal remedies for overseas Bangladeshis in matters related to their property,
business and other rights in the UAE.
“Expatriates are often deprived of enjoying and possessing
their legally earned assets due to complex legal complications in the UAE,
despite contributing with hard-earned money to the Arab country,” he added.
He urged all expatriates to unite and raise a strong demand
for the establishment of a migrant tribunal to safeguard their legal rights.
He also highlighted HRPB’s activities related to human
rights, environmental protection and the rights of expatriates.
At the end of the meeting, a 21-member convening committee
of HRPB’s UAE chapter was formed by consensus.
Businessman Rakimul Al Mamun was made convener, Sihab Uddin
Simul member secretary, while Mohammad Mojibur Mia and Mohammad Yasin Babul
were named joint conveners.
Other members of the committee include Mohammad Mozammel
Hossain, and Abdur Razzak Sheikh.
The information was conveyed by Advocate Manzill Murshid.
