The government will observe a three-day state mourning starting Wednesday following the demise of three-time former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus made the announcement while addressing the nation on Tuesday.
He also declared Wednesday, the day of her namaz-e-janaza, a public holiday.
Prof Yunus urged everyone to maintain discipline during the funeral prayer and the observance of mourning.
Khaleda Zia, widely regarded as an uncompromising leader for democracy in Bangladesh, passed away early Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
