Shahbagh turned volatile on Saturday as students and people from different strata of life staged demonstrations demanding justice for the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.
The protest began around 4pm, shortly after the completion of Hadi’s funeral rites.
On the ground, it was seen that large groups of students and protesters marched to Shahbagh following the namaz-e-janaza, chanting various slogans calling for punishment of those responsible for the killing.
The gathering continued to grow as more people joined the demonstrations from different parts of the city.
Earlier in the afternoon, Osman Hadi was laid to rest beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near the Dhaka University Central Mosque. The burial took place around 3:30pm, following his janaza at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The funeral prayer was held at 2:33pm and was attended by thousands of mourners from across the country, representing various professions and social groups. Hadi’s elder brother, Abu Bakar Siddique, led the funeral prayer, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere at the venue.
After the janaza, the ambulance carrying Hadi’s body proceeded to the Dhaka University Central Mosque area for burial, after which protesters moved towards Shahbagh to continue their demands for justice.
