Describing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as “an inseparable part of an important chapter in Bangladesh’s history,” Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has highlighted her unwavering commitment to the country’s independence, sovereignty and democracy, her contributions to national development, and the respectful sentiments of the people toward her.
“Considering all these factors, the government has already declared her a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) of the state,” he said on Tuesday.
The government is extending all necessary cooperation to ensure treatment for the ailing BNP chief, the chief adviser said while addressing the nation this evening on the occasion of Victory Day.
“You are aware that the national leader, three-time former prime minister, one of the foremost figures of democratic politics of the country and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is currently hospitalised due to illness. This is a matter of concern for all of us.”
Yunus said the interim government has been giving the issue the highest importance from the very beginning.
Noting that the government is extending all necessary cooperation to ensure her treatment, while fully respecting the wishes of her family, he said, alongside treatment at home, all options, including arrangements for advanced treatment abroad if needed, are under consideration.
