Jatiya Chhatra Shakti has demanded the resignation of the Home Adviser, holding him accountable for failing to apprehend those directly involved in the shooting of July revolutionary and Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Osman Hadi.
The group staged a blockade at Shahbagh on Monday afternoon to press home their demand.
During the demonstration, the organisation claimed that law and order across the country had deteriorated. The blockade began at 12 noon, with protesters calling for the Home Adviser to step down.
Abu Baker Majumdar, General Secretary of the Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, emphasised that the movement is peaceful and democratic, saying: “Our protest is not intended to cause public inconvenience. It is a campaign for justice and public opinion. We hope the interim government will make a swift decision to minimise any disruption for the people.”
Protesters also claimed that the country is not yet ready for elections, criticising the current Home Adviser for failing to maintain law and order.
They insisted that he should take responsibility for these failures and resign in the interest of the nation.
The shooting incident took place on 12 December, when two assailants on a motorcycle fired at Hadi while he was travelling in an auto-rickshaw. Severely injured, Hadi was initially admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital. Today, he is being flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station in connection with the attempted assassination, with one of Hadi’s relatives named as the complainant. The investigation is being conducted by Inspector (Operations) Yasin Mia of Paltan Police Station.
