Dhaka University (DU) has held a colourful rally to celebrate the beginning of the Great Victory Month, with a large number of teachers, students, officers and employees joining the procession on Monday morning.
The rally began at 9am from Aparajeyo Bangla, moved around TSC and
ended at Smriti Chirantan Chattar.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan led the rally, which was
organised as part of the month-long observance of Victory Day 2025.
Participants gathered at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 8:45am
before the event commenced.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha,
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Prof M Jahangir
Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmed, acting registrar Munshi Shams
Uddin Ahmed, DUCSU General Secretary SM Farhad, alongside senate-syndicate
members, deans, departmental chairmen, institute directors, provosts and other
officials took part in the rally.
The programme concluded with patriotic songs themed on the
Liberation War and Victory Day, performed under the supervision of the
university’s music department.
In a brief address, VC Niaz said December stands as a distinctive
milestone in the nation’s identity, marking the month in 1971 when the Bengali
nation secured a historic victory.
He paid deep tribute to the martyred intellectuals of 14 December,
whose sacrifice, he said, strengthened the foundation of independence.
He said the nation has always united in times of crisis, rising
above divisions of race, religion and caste.
He expressed hope that the Victory Month would reinforce this
collective spirit.
Reflecting on DU’s historic role, the VC said the university has
long been associated with movements against injustice, and remains committed to
justice, human values and freedom.
He added that DU thrives through the affection of the people, noting
that the month-long programme is not merely a university event but a national
observance.
He said the Victory Month should stand as a symbol of unity, and
stressed that patriotism and mutual respect must guide the nation’s path
forward.
