The High Court on Monday granted bail to Dhaka University law teacher Hafizur Rahman Karzon in an Anti-Terrorism Act case over an alleged conspiracy to topple the interim government.
The bench of Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja and Justice Rezaul Karim approved Karzon’s bail, paving the way for his release, as no other cases were pending against him, said his lawyer Ali Ahmed Khokon.
The case, filed on 28 August at Shahbagh police station, named former minister Abdul Latif Siddique, Karzon, journalist Monjurul Alam Panna, and 13 others for allegedly holding a meeting in Dhaka to conspire against the interim government.
The Appellate Division also upheld the High Court’s bail for Monjurul Alam Panna, a former Ekushey Television journalist, reversing its previous decision to adjourn the hearing by a week.
Earlier, the High Court had granted bail to Latif Siddique and Panna, which the Appellate Division later confirmed.
