The Ministry of Education has halted the appointments of top positions, including principals, in private educational institutions as part of its decision to change the recruitment policy.
The Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) will now fill these positions. A circular, signed by Syed A Z Morshed Ali, deputy secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division (SHED), was published on the website of the SHED on Monday.
According to the notification, the government has made a policy decision that the appointments to the posts of head and assistant head (principal, vice-principal, head teacher, assistant head teacher, superintendent, and assistant superintendent) in private educational institutions will be carried out through the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA). All recruitment activities for the positions of head/assistant head in private educational institutions are to remain suspended until further instructions are issued, the circular added.
The NTRCA was the earlier authority to recommend candidates for the posts of entry-level teachers and lecturers in private educational institutions, while the power to appoint top positions like principals and vice principals was previously bestowed on the governing bodies.
On 30 September, NTRCA Chairman Md Aminul Islam said they have decided to conduct the recruitment process for the posts under the supervision of the government and the Ministry of Education.
