The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought financial information and records on former interim government adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and his wife, Ayesha Akter Panna, from 23 financial institutions and mobile financial service (MFS) providers.
In a letter dated 28 September 2026, the ACC’s Special Investigation Branch asked the institutions, including bKash and Nagad, to provide details of any bank accounts, financial facilities or MFS accounts held by the couple, either individually or jointly.
The letter was signed by Md Zahid Kalam, deputy director and head of the ACC investigation team, who confirmed the matter to the Daily Sun.
According to the letter, allegations against Asif Mahmud include acquiring illegal wealth, forming shell companies, obtaining foreign citizenship, money laundering and other irregularities and corruption. The allegations remain under investigation.
The ACC has sought certified copies of account-opening forms and statements, KYC and transaction-profile records, FDR and DPS details, savings certificate records, loan accounts and repayment information, credit card details, MFS accounts and transaction records, and other financial documents.
The institutions have been asked to submit the records by 11 October 2026.
The 23 institutions include IDLC Finance, Phoenix Finance and Investment, LankaBangla Finance, Nagad, Union Capital, bKash, Uttara Finance and Investments, Bangladesh Finance and Investment Company, MIDAS Financing, Prime Finance, United Finance, Bay Leasing and Finance,
Bangladesh Industrial Finance Company, Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund, CVC Finance, International Leasing and Financial Services, Premier Leasing and Finance, Islami Finance and Investment, Aviva Finance, Bangladesh Infrastructure and Development Company, FAS Finance and Investment, Delta-BRAC Housing Finance Corporation and National Finance.
Asif Mahmud has denied the allegations and accused the ACC of creating an impression that they had already been established. He has also alleged that a “media trial” was under way.
The ACC began the investigation on 2 September and later said additional allegations against Asif Mahmud would be incorporated into the probe.
A senior ACC official said the allegations had not been established as proven offences and that the commission would examine the financial records and other evidence before deciding on further legal action.
“There is progress and the matter is being followed up,” ACC Deputy Director Md Zahid Kalam told the Daily Sun.
