Gas supply to the national grid has returned to normal after LNG transfer to the floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar resumed following a temporary disruption caused by adverse weather.
“Gas supply returned to normal around 7 am today after the LNG cargo successfully resumed gas transfer,” Petrobangla Director (Operations and Mines) Engineer Md Shoyeb told BSS on Friday.
He said total gas supply to the national grid rose to 2,525 mmcfd around 2:00pm, with domestic sources supplying 1,607 mmcfd and regasified LNG (RLNG) contributing 918 mmcfd. The supply is expected to increase further.
“Gas supply to both industrial and residential sectors has increased. Earlier, gas supply had temporarily been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions,” Shoyeb said.
LNG transfer from a cargo to the Moheshkhali floating terminal was disrupted on Thursday due to rough weather in the Bay of Bengal, causing RLNG supply to decline and reducing overall gas supply to the national grid.
Petrobangla had said gas transfer would resume as soon as weather conditions improved.
Gas pressure returns to normal
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit said gas pressure had returned to normal by Friday afternoon after LNG unloading resumed at 7:18am.
“LNG cargoes have resumed gas transfer to the two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) in the Bay of Bengal after temporary disruption on Thursday due to adverse weather,” he said while replying to a question.
The state minister made the remarks after a meeting of the District Hospital Health Management Committee at Jashore Circuit House.
He also said the government was working to expand specialised healthcare services in Jashore so that patients would not have to travel to Dhaka or other districts for treatment.
Residents of Jashore would be provided with full-fledged coronary care unit (CCU) services within the stipulated timeframe, he said. The government would also work to provide advanced healthcare services in remote and disadvantaged areas within the next few months, Amit added.
On fuel prices, he said the government would consider readjusting them if global energy prices remained stable or declined. “If global energy prices remain stable or come down, we will try to readjust fuel prices in the country as soon as possible to provide relief to people,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashek Hasan chaired the health committee meeting, while reserved-seat lawmaker Sabira Nazmul, General Hospital Superintendent Dr Md Hossain Shafayat, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Masud Rana and senior officials concerned attended.
