The nest of the Baya Weaver, locally known as “Babui Pakhi”, was once a familiar sight across rural Bangladesh. These intricately woven hanging nests, made from straw and suspended from palm tree branches, once attracted admiration for their remarkable design and engineering. However, the rapid decline of palm trees, coupled with habitat loss and environmental change, has made such sightings increasingly rare, pushing the species towards gradual decline in many areas. The photo was taken in Sherpur upazila of Bogura on Tuesday.
