Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB) Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim has urged the people not to vote for corrupt individuals, terrorists, or money launderers in Thursday’s general election.
He made the appeal in a televised address to the nation aired on Bangladesh Television on Sunday.
Citing a verse from the Holy Quran, the IAB chief said voting carries moral and spiritual responsibility. “If you vote for someone accused of corruption, terrorism, or money laundering, you may share responsibility for their wrongdoing. Voting is not only a worldly duty but also a matter that affects the life hereafter. Therefore, voters must be extremely cautious,” he said.
He also highlighted his party’s election manifesto, which includes 30 key pledges. Among them are prioritising Islamic principles in the governance system and introducing proportional representation system for electing members to both the upper and lower houses of parliament.
According to the manifesto, IAB aims to transform the country into a developed and welfare-oriented state within the next 15 years. It also proposes nationalising all educational institutions to ensure equal access to education. Addressing young voters, Rezaul Karim, also known as Charmonai Pir, said the party is not seeking power for personal gain. “Islami Andolon will not work to improve its own fate. Rather, we will work to ensure scientific and ethical education, create employment opportunities, and reduce unemployment,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of voting, he said, “A single vote may not make anyone rich or poor, but it can shape your destiny and the future of the nation.”
The IAB ameer also urged law enforcement agencies to perform their duties with neutrality, which is essential to ensuring people’s voting rights.
