Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday assured that if voted to power, his party will not touch people’s assets; rather will return looted money to the citizens.
“Corruption does not align with our character and values. It is our duty to restore the trust that has been stolen from the people,” he said.
Shafiqur Rahman made the statement while addressing a mass contact and pre-procession rally in Dhaka-15 from where he is contesting the polls, held in front of the East Bayshteki Graveyard Mosque in Kafrul.
Apologising to any mother or sister who may have felt hurt by the words of Jamaat leaders, he said, “For the sake of Allah, please forgive us. May we serve the people with sincerity, and may Allah accept our efforts. We have no intention of pursuing any personal or party agenda.”
Earlier in the day, speaking at a public rally of the 11-party alliance at Jamalpur Singhajani High School ground, the Jamaat chief described the upcoming parliamentary election as a turning point for Bangladesh.

“This election stands on the sacrifices of 1,400 martyrs. It signals the end of the dark era of Aynaghor and aims to end the suffering of the families of martyrs. It is an election to bury the rotten politics of the past,” he said.
Speaking about employment, Shafiqur Rahman said if Jamaat comes to power, arrangements will be made to ensure jobs for the youth. “The youth do not want allowances; they want work,” he added.
"We will not insult the youth by giving unemployment allowances; instead, we will place work in their hands," he said. The Jamaat ameer paid deep homage to Maulana Rezaul Karim, who was killed in a clash between BNP and Jamaat men on Wednesday, by visiting his grave and meeting with his family in Sherpur district.
He arrived in Sherpur at 9am via a private helicopter from Dhaka airport. Upon arrival, he proceeded directly to the home of the martyr's family in Sreebardi upazila.
During his visit, Shafiqur offered his heartfelt condolences, inquired after the family's well-being, and provided words of comfort, praying to Allah for patience and strength during this difficult time.
In a poignant moment, he lifted the three-year-old daughter of Rezaul Karim in his arms, visibly moved by the child's innocence.
