Former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy has thanked the government after being released from prison on bail in 12 cases.
Ivy was released from Kashimpur Central Women's Jail at 10:10pm on Wednesday (3 June) after securing bail in all the cases filed against her.
Speaking shortly after her release, she expressed gratitude to the government and voiced hope that it would ensure a humane environment by bringing everyone together.
Referring to other inmates, Ivy said many innocent women remain behind bars and expressed hope that the government would show compassion toward them as well.
Prison authorities said she was released after completing the necessary verification process following receipt of the court's bail orders. Kashimpur Central Women's Jail Superintendent Shirin Akter confirmed the matter.
Ivy faces 12 cases filed at different police stations in Narayanganj, including charges related to murder, attempted murder and explosives.
The cases were filed in connection with the anti-discrimination student-public movement. She was arrested from her residence in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj city on 9 May last year and was subsequently shown arrested in multiple cases.
