A major fire at Mansur Khan Plaza in Chawkbazar of Old Dhaka was brought under control at 5:20am on Tuesday after firefighters battled the blaze for more than 12 hours.
Ten units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence worked to contain the fire, said Talha Bin Jasim, an official of the Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell.
All goods stored on the market building’s sixth floor were destroyed in the fire, according to the Fire Service.
Two firefighters fell ill after inhaling smoke while tackling the blaze.
Fire service officials said narrow roads and structural complexities in Old Dhaka made it difficult for firefighters to bring the fire under control.
The Fire Service received information about the fire at 5:04pm on Monday.
