Eight more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Eight more children died with measles-like symptoms across the country and 1,014 new suspected cases were reported in the past 24 hours, the health authorities said on Saturday. 

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 51 cases of measles were confirmed between 8am Friday and 8am Saturday, with no confirmed deaths during the same period.

The DGHS said that since 15 March, the total number of confirmed measles cases has stood at 23,324, while suspected cases have reached 219,884.

During the same period, 104 people died from confirmed measles, while 1,118 deaths were reported among suspected cases, bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,222.

Besides, a total of 187,605 patients have recovered so far, the DGHS said.
