The ruling BNP on Sunday approved a two-member partial convening committee for its Dhaka North unit, appointing Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton as convener and SM Jahangir Hossain as member secretary.
Milton, who currently serves as administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), is joined by Jahangir, a lawmaker from the Dhaka-18 parliamentary constituency, in the new committee.
The committee has been asked to form a full-fledged convening committee within two weeks, according to a press release signed by Muhammad Monir Hossain, assistant office secretary of the party.
Earlier, on 30 September, the BNP dissolved the 51-member convening committee of its Dhaka North unit, led by Aminul Haque as convener and Mostafa Zaman as member secretary. The party did not specify the reason for the decision in its announcement.
In a separate press release issued the same day, the BNP expelled three activists from all party positions over their alleged involvement in “unethical activities”.
The expelled members are Khalil Chowdhury, joint convener of the Shah Ali Police Station unit; Anowar Hossain, general secretary of the Block-C unit; and Hafizur Rahman Shuvro, a member of the BNP's Dhaka North unit.
