No Operation Clean Heart-type drive planned: Home minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday that the government has no plan to launch a drive like Operation Clean Heart, though it is making “all-out efforts” to curb crime.
“Police officers sometimes come under attack while trying to prevent crime. This is nothing new. We will make every possible effort to bring criminals under control,” he told journalists after inaugurating the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Cyber Police Centre and Digital Forensic Lab at the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Lines in the city’s Dampara area.
He warned that anyone who helped an accused person evade arrest would face legal action.

Stressing the role of digital forensics in speeding up the judicial process, the minister said analysis and authentication of evidence were essential to ensure timely justice.
The Chattogram facility follows a similar one in Dhaka and is intended to strengthen the police’s capacity to use digital technology andtackle related crimes. The project is being implemented with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
“Crime patterns have changed worldwide. Criminals are using digital platforms for phishing, blackmail, online harassment and fraud, posing security risks to individuals, institutions and government agencies,” he said.
The government plans to set up digital forensic laboratories at divisional, district and upazila levels nationwide, he added.
