Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday urged government officials to ensure the responsible, transparent and effective use of public funds allocated for development projects, stressing that every penny must serve the national interest and public welfare.
“Every penny of public money must be spent solely in the national interest and for the people’s welfare,” he said.
The prime minister was speaking at a meeting to review the activities of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and assess progress on its development projects at his Secretariat office in Dhaka, according to a press release.
Officials briefed him on the ministry’s ongoing activities, project implementation and future plans and targets.
“You have devised many projects and set targets. We will disburse funds to achieve the goal, but these are public funds,” Tarique said, urging officials to ensure that the money was used properly for the benefit of the country and its people.
He described public service as a privilege and called on officials to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication, making the best use of the opportunities available to them.
Noting that opportunities to serve in positions of responsibility do not last indefinitely, he urged officials to make effective use of their time in office to advance the country’s interests and improve public welfare.
The prime minister also encouraged officials to share their views more openly, saying their field-level experience and observations could contribute to government decision-making.
He expressed hope that officials would speak more freely at future review meetings, offering their insights and recommendations on the ministry’s activities and progress.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Secretary Md Delwar Hossain and senior ministry officials attended the meeting.
