Sohel killed child Ramisa after rape, slit throat to conceal body

A Dhaka court on Wednesday recorded the confessional statement of the accused, Sohel Rana, in the case of the rape and murder of an eight-year-old child by slitting her throat in the Pallabi area of Mirpur in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed recorded the statement and ordered him to be sent to jail following a petition filed by Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman of Pallabi police station.
In the same case, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashraful Haque sent Sohel Rana's wife, Swapna Akhter, to jail following another petition filed by Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman.
The victim, Ramisa Akter, 8, was a second-grade student at Popular Model High School. On 19 May at around 9:30am, the accused Sohel and his wife Swapna Akter allegedly lured the child into their flat.
At around 10:30am, Ramisa's family began searching for her when she could not be found for school, and eventually noticed her shoes outside the accused’s room.
Ramisa’s parents and other residents broke open the door after receiving no response from inside. They found Ramisa's decapitated body on the bedroom floor, while her severed head had been placed inside a large bucket in the room.
The accused, Swapna Akter, was allegedly standing in the room. When questioned, she claimed her husband, Md Sohel Rana, 30, had locked Ramisa inside the bathroom, raped her, and then slit her throat to satisfy his lust.
The police petition also claimed that the accused allegedly severed the child’s head from her body with a sharp knife to conceal the corpse. Her genital area was also mutilated, and both arms were partially detached from the shoulders. The body was later moved from the bathroom to the bedroom and hidden under the bed, while the head was placed in a bucket.
After the incident, Sohel Rana allegedly escaped by cutting through the window grille of the room. He was later arrested in front of Fatullah police station in the Narayanganj district.
Sohel Rana reportedly confessed to the rape and murder of the child, while his wife's active involvement in the incident is still being investigated, said the police.
