Following the success of the film “Roid”, actor Mostafizur Noor Imran has remained busy with several projects. He has also ventured into directing with “Jiner Bachcha” and “Jadukar”, marking a new chapter in his career. As he prepares for the release of his second web film, “Jadukar”, Daily Sun takes a closer look at the artiste’s recent professional engagements.
Your second web film, ‘Jadukar’, is awaiting release. Do you have any plans to make a feature film?
I want to release “Jadukar” as a web film. However, we have not yet signed a deal with any OTT platform, so the release date has not been finalised. I definitely have plans to direct a feature film for the big screen, and I’m currently working on the script. There are a few obstacles, but we are trying to overcome them.
How do you prepare yourself before portraying a new character?
Before taking on a character, I try to understand every aspect of that person. In a way, we are all characters ourselves. We behave differently with different people and play different roles in different situations. Beyond those roles, however, we remain individuals in our own right. I try to explore these different dimensions and understand the character I’m about to portray.
What are the key factors you consider before accepting a project?
First, I look at the story. Then I consider my character and how much of a challenge it offers me as an actor. If both aspects appeal to me, I feel motivated to take on the project.
Have you ever turned down a role because you felt it did not suit you?
If I don’t like a project, I simply don’t take it on. There have also been instances when I had to turn down some very good projects because of scheduling conflicts. In other cases, I couldn’t proceed because the payment terms had not been settled.
What kind of character would you still like to portray?
There are so many. For instance, I never imagined I would get to play a character like Sadhu in ‘Roid’. I had no idea beforehand that I would be portraying someone like him. I genuinely enjoy taking on such unexpected roles. Besides, there are countless fascinating characters in literature that I would love to bring to life on screen.
What changes would you like to see in the entertainment industry?
Instead of constantly chasing views, OTT platforms and other production houses should focus on creating quality content. Good content requires skilled and educated people who understand their craft. We also need to move away from the tendency to rely on established stars as a shortcut to producing hits. All forms of syndication should be eliminated, and everyone should work together to develop the industry. Alongside these, establishing more institutes is essential for developing the industry.
Do audience reactions influence the way you approach your work?
Certainly! I pay attention when viewers leave positive comments. Even when I come across negative comments, I try to address the issues they raise and work on improving myself.
What has been the biggest lesson your career has taught you?
People don’t always trust actors. Many think we are constantly acting, even outside the screen. But stepping into a character and then stepping out of it is a challenging process. When it comes to screen acting, the principle is ‘less is more’. The most important lesson I have learnt about the craft is that to become a good actor, one must first understand oneself.
What kind of projects are you currently working on?
I’m involved in several projects at the moment. However, I cannot disclose anything until the official announcements are made. My work will speak for me.
