Although medicine is her chosen profession, Kaniz Fatema Chhowa has ambitions that extend beyond the medical field. On 31 October, she began a new chapter in her life after being crowned the winner of the first season of the “Miss And Mrs Doctor” competition at a prestigious hotel in the capital.
The achievement was almost unbelievable for Chhowa. As she stood before the audience wearing the winner’s crown, her thoughts repeatedly turned to her father, GM Kamrul Huda, who has always been her greatest source of inspiration. She wished he could have been there to share the proud moment.
Following her victory, she expressed gratitude to show director Sakib Sonet and the show’s CEO and organiser Dr Hasan Mahmud.
Originally from Khulna, Chhowa completed her MBBS degree in 2025 from Rostov State Medical University in Russia, established in 1930. Even before completing her medical studies, she had occasional opportunities to act. Besides acting, she is passionate about singing, dancing and painting.
“When I was studying abroad, I tried to represent Bangladeshi culture through songs whenever cultural programmes were organised. I always felt that there was an artist within me,” Chhowa said.
She added that winning the reality competition brought back memories of her father, who had encouraged her throughout her journey. Her father, a former bank employee, has been unwell since suffering a stroke around a year and a half ago.
Alongside pursuing her medical career, Chhowa wants to continue acting and contribute to improving Bangladesh’s healthcare system, particularly by addressing its administrative shortcomings. She also feels responsible for supporting her younger brother, Tanzim, and fulfilling her parents' dreams.
Her acting talent has already attracted recognition. Veteran actor and physician Dr Ejazul Islam highly praised her performance, particularly her dialogue delivery and pronunciation, comparing her skills favourably with those of an experienced performer.
For Chhowa, medicine and the arts are not competing ambitions but two paths she hopes to pursue together.
